Archbishop Rowan visits St Philip’s Centre
The Centre was delighted to receive a very special visit from our Patron, Archbishop Rowan Williams, on 22nd October 2009. He spent a full day here meeting and engaging with staff and resource people, addressing an audience of 150 from a variety of faiths and from partners and friends of the Centre. The Mayor and Lady Mayoress attended, together with Sir Peter Soulsby, local Member of Parliament, Majula Sood, newly elected Chair of the Leicester Council of Faiths and Pippa Virdee, representing our growing link with De Montfort University. Marika Palmdahl, Inter Faith Officer for our partner project in Gothenburg, Sweden, was also present. The Bishop of Leicester, Tim Stevens, hosted a special lunch for Archbishop Rowan and 35 guests. The day ended with a Eucharist Service in St Philip’s Church presided over by the Archbishop at which he made a presentation to Director, Dr Andrew Wingate.
